Hello fellow readers of all kinds! I do apologize for not
blogging on a normal basis; I feel it means more in my writing if I write when
I feel the inspiration to write. Some people have been interested in what I
eat, what foods I buy, and how my day goes on my Facebook.
With this being said,
I want to take you guys threw my typical mommy, active, healthy life-style day.
I wake up just like many of your guys do only with the added toddler wake up
call, but the first thing I do when I wake is make my bed. There is just
something about making the bed in the morning; it makes me feel accomplished
and for some reason happier.
(obvious this is not me, but what I do ;-))
Then it’s time for breakfast. We don’t have in our
cupboard what the typical American family has. We eat Oatmeal (Prefer steel cut
not prepackaged or artificial fruit added) or eggs with whole wheat toast and
fruit or my personal favorite Nutrimeal shake.
For lunch my son Brayden has been going
through a phase on peanut butter sandwiches so that’s what he has most of the
time with a side of veggies. I have left over’s from the dinner the night before,
make a chicken sandwich, packed veggie salad, or tuna salad. If I’m on the run
ill make a protein packed Nutrimeal shake.
We eat all left over’s in our house
and all food in our house. We only put food into our home that is organic as
much as possible, whole wheat, lots of veggies and fruit. We don’t eat snack
food; that means no cookies, processed freezer food, no cokes and no sugar! We don’t
even have sweetener in our home either. If something needs to be sweetened like
oatmeal we add pure Maple Syrup or natural real honey. Other than water we drink
green tea (unsweetened), Pom juice, V8 Fusion juice (for Brayden), Rev3 (energy
drink), and non rBST free (Bovine growth hormone) skim milk and of course black
coffee. Now, I know what you’re thinking…. “They are depriving that poor child
of McDonalds’ and sweet stuff! Omg how could they?” I seriously laugh when
people tell us this, because they have NO idea what they are putting into their
mouths or their kids mouths for that matter. I always say that self education
is so very important! If people only knew what the good old government lets
these so called companies do to our food and add to our food. Yes, I said it
add and do, the burger your grandparents ate at McDonalds it not the same
burger you eat today! That is FACT! The recipe has been changed to prolong the
life of the food to make things faster and more efficient.
(2 years old Fast food)
You would make the
decisions my family has done as well if you learned what we have learned. It’s
easy to educate yourself, buy books, research your ingredients, and watch food documentaries’.
Here I’ll give you a few to start watching “Food Matters”, “Food Inc”, “Forks
over Knives”. Ok sorry about the tangent
I went on, but some people need the wakeup call!
Another BIG change we had in
our family recently was no cable! Our contract ended with Direct TV and they didn’t
offer internet service. We searched around looking for another service and then
Chris and I had a ah ha moment. I was reading Dani Johnson’s book “First Steps
to Wealth” I got to the chapter in the book about War on Debt. I then realized
we spent money in areas where we could have been saving we were paying for non necessity
items and not putting our money into other smarter investments or assets. We
also took a look at how Chris and I were staying up to 12am every night glued
to the TV watching our favorite shows. We realized in order to get to where we
want to be we have to start making sacrifices we should not have the time for TV.
We were grooming our son also to watch TV all day and that was NOT okay! He
should be playing, learning, and running around outside. These are the overall
reasons why my family doesn’t have Cable. Brayden still has his movies and he
does watch a few per day, but nothing near what he did watch.
How do I fill my
time during the day? I read my personal development books, play with my son, exercise,
I even have a weekly house cleaning schedule. Threw rereading this blog post
just now I realized I didn’t even talk about dinner! I guess that’s what I get
for distracting myself. Ha ha!
(My handsome hubs cooking with me)
Our dinners are cooked mostly from scratch. They
are always Low-glycemic as much as possible and as I mentioned before I use
what I have. When I get a yawn from our menu I Google new recipes and almost
always have to substitute ingredients. It’s always trial and error with me in
the kitchen. My family and I also plan to plant a lot of our food this year, that’s
going to be a lot of fun! You will eventually find your nitch with learning
what foods are good and what foods are not so good. Don’t be afraid of cooking
and trying new cooking methods. Here are some pictures of some of my meals I have
made in the past if you’re looking for examples. Thanks for reading!
(Grilled lean burgers with lots of veggies side salad and potato fries)
(Organic Spaghetti with Asparagus and toast with a garlic Greek yogurt spread)
